An Interview with Dr. Jeffrey Rawlings
“For me, removing bandages is like opening a Christmas present.” - Dr. Jeffrey M. Rawlings
Q. WHY PLASTIC SURGERY?
As a general surgeon, I discovered my talents—good hands and an innate ability to conceptualize individual beauty.
Q. WHY STUDY AT THE MAYO CLINIC?
World-class surgeons and a highly competitive appointment. It was the best year of my training, increased my abilities ten-fold, matured me.
Q. WHAT IS YOUR FIRST STEP?
Learn about the person, not the ‘patient.’
Q. WHAT IS YOUR PHILOSOPHY?
Without honesty and true interest in what you’re doing for someone, skill alone can’t bring success.
Q. WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE TO POTENTIAL PATIENTS?
Do your research about procedures and surgeons. Ask about membership in peer-reviewed societies. They’re rigorous.
Q. WHAT IS THE BEST PART OF PRACTICING?
Operating. Then seeing a patient’s reaction. I’ve had patients who cried, who threw their arms around me, who were speechless. This profession can make such an impact on a person’s life.
“Technology is revolutionizing cosmetic surgery. Options like Titan™ can even help patients avoid it.”
Q. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON STAYING CURRENT?
It’s vital. I choose professional meetings and journals carefully.
Q. WHY OFFER CUTERA® TITAN™?
Technology for nonsurgical skin tightening by heat energy is much more advanced now. Cutera® Titan™ uses infrared light—superior device, safe, and controllable. I wanted that for my patients at Rejuva MediSpa.
Q. WHO IS USING CUTERA® TITAN™?
Both men and women. Some seek Titan™ here, but with any patient who comes to me, my first step is a good talk. People sometimes ask for a certain procedure when something different is exactly what they need.
Q. A SURGEON WHO CONSIDERS ALTERNATIVES?
Absolutely. The future for the field is immense.
